Scotia Logic IT and Development Inc. is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated candidate to fill the position of Junior / Intermediate Developer. They should possess excellent communication and people skills, and proven experience working on business solutions software development projects, to meet the requirements of our Canadian and International clients. The successful candidate will work with our business analysts, software architects, QA team and IT specialists in a dynamic and enjoyable environment producing leading edge solutions often integrated with GIS. They will also have opportunity to cultivate many skills in one of Cape Breton’s oldest IT companies.

Job Purpose

Design and develop new web applications for Canadian and International organizations. Perform a variety of tasks relating to the design, development, testing, and documentation of web applications. Work closely with project managers, technical staff, and other team members to deliver solutions to clients.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Web/Application Developer performs a wide range of duties including some or all of the following:

  • · Web Development (ASP.NET, Python, Django, Vue.js, JavaScript, CSS, WordPress)
  • · Application Development (C#, VB.NET)
  • · Systems Development (Web Services, Business Logic, Reporting)
  • · Database Development and Operation (SQL, Stored Procedures, Functions)
  • · Documentation (User and System Manuals)
  • · Other duties (source control, time tracking, reports, etc)

Main Tasks:

  • Perform work related to projects as assigned by the functional manager.
  • Provide estimates based on specifications.
  • Work with a team performing the tasks such as:
    • Web and Database design and development for client projects
    • Develop re-usable components and controls
    • Perform testing (unit and manual) on modules and components
    • Documentation for development, testing and deployment

Education and Experience (One or more of the following)

  • University Degree in Computer Science or a combination of post-secondary education and related experience (diploma).
  • 2+ Years of web / application development experience
  • 1+ Years of database programming experience

*Proven Competency in the following skills based on self-education and previous experience.

Proficiency in the use of the following software packages:

  • Web / Application development using .NET in both VB.NET and C#
  • Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio
  • Experience with CSS and JavaScript libraries
  • Experience with Python, Vue.js, Django
  • Experience in SQL and management software for Microsoft SQL Server, PostGreSQL
  • Experience in Amazon Web Services (hosting, management)
  • Optional: OpenLayers, GoogleMaps, BingMaps, Esri Javascript API

Working Environment

Work is normally performed at Scotia Logic in an indoor office environment. Person should have or be eligible for a Canadian passport. Remote work from home (occasionally, as needed)
