Description
The Department of Education at Cape Breton University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Teaching in Science Education. The appointment will be effective January 1, 2023, or as negotiated with the successful candidate.

We are seeking a faculty colleague to teach courses leading to Bachelor of Education degrees in Secondary and Elementary Education. The ability to teach science methodology courses at the pre-service teacher and at the graduate level is also required. The field of Science Education is crucial to developing students’ understanding of and interest in the world around them. The Assistant Professor of Teaching in Science Education will design and deliver forward thinking programming that includes inquiry-based learning, experiential education and a design thinking approach. Strong pedagogy in universal design for learning (UDL), culturally responsive teaching (CRT), two-eyed seeing, and authentic assessment in Science Education are required for this position.

The successful applicant may have a Masters’ degree in a related discipline and a related PhD (those currently enrolled in a PhD or doctoral program will be considered) or a Master’s degree in a related discipline with a willingness to complete a related doctoral degree.
 
The Assistant Professor of Teaching in Science Education is expected to develop and teach in-person undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Science Education. Teaching is assigned in accordance with the collective agreement. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a robust research program and assume educational leadership responsibilities, such as curriculum development, evaluation, innovation, course coordination, graduate teaching assistant supervision, and other leadership roles.

Requirements

a Masters’ degree in a related discipline and a related PhD (those currently enrolled in a PhD or doctoral program will be considered) or a Master’s degree in a related discipline with a willingness to complete a related doctoral degree.

Experience in, and knowledge of, education for sustainability, and Indigenous pedagogical approaches will be considered an asset.
