find a Licensed Optician - ideally also licensed as a Contact Lens Fitter - to

Title: Licensed Optician (with Contact Lens
Fitter License)
Position: Full Time Permanent (35 -
40hrs/week)
Hours of Work: Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday,
8:00AM – 5:00PM; Wednesday, 8:00AM - 7:00PM
Job Location: In-office at 117 Welton Street,
Sydney, NS
Proposed Start Date: As soon as possible
Compensation Package: Hourly wage of $24.00 -
$30.00/hour, based on experience and qualifications. Comprehensive cost-shared

As a Licensed Optician - and ideally a Licensed
Contact Lens Fitter - you’ll play a vital role in supporting innovative
treatment options and delivering personalized vision care. You'll assist
patients in frame selection, take accurate measurements, and fit both
eyeglasses and contact lenses - including specialty lenses.
You’ll work with a dedicated team that’s passionate about improving lives through vision and eager to help you grow both professionally and personally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Guide patients in selecting eyewear based on prescription, lifestyle, and personal preferences.
- Take precise optical measurements (e.g., pupillary distance, curvature, bridge width).
- Translate optometric prescriptions into accurate, tailored lens solutions.
- (If applicable) Fit specialty contact lenses for myopia management and therapeutic purposes.
- Fit and adjust prescription eyeglasses and contact lenses.
- Support advanced treatments like orthokeratology, Neurolens, Avulux, and vision aids for post-concussion care.
- Educate patients on proper lens care and usage.
- Cut, grind, edge, or coordinate lab services for lens finishing.
- Document all patient interactions accurately and professionally in EMRs.
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure high-quality, consistent patient care.
- Stay informed on innovations in lenses, treatments, and frame technologies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- A Licensed Optician in good standing with the Nova Scotia College of Dispensing Opticians (NSCDO).
- A Licensed Contact Lens Fitter or actively pursuing this credential (preferred).
- Graduate of a 2 – 3 year optical sciences or ophthalmic dispensing program (or equivalent experience).
- Experienced or interested in specialty contact lenses and innovative vision treatments.
- Detail-oriented, professional, and committed to clinical excellence.
- Naturally compassionate with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- A continuous learner who thrives in a fast-paced, forward-thinking clinic.
- Tech-savvy, ideally with experience using electronic medical records.
- Able to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion.
- Team-oriented, flexible, and able to adapt quickly in dynamic patient environments.
- Able to provide a clear criminal record check and follow all health and safety protocols.
