JOB SCOPE:

Reporting to the Manager of Building Inspection and By-law Services, this role is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the minimum standards by-laws and other by-laws, standards and legislation governing property maintenance.

 BARGAINING UNIT:      IAFF Local 2779

 SALARY:                            $54,016

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Must include copies of the items listed below)

  • Grade 12 or GED equivalent.
  • Graduate from a program of contemporary law enforcement, in private policing, corrections, or conservation, etc.
  • An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
  • Must maintain an appointment as a Special Constable under the Nova Scotia Minister of Justice Office of the Attorney General, for the enforcement of the Provincial and Municipal Acts and Regulations as well as other legislation, by-laws and standards dealing with existing buildings and properties delegated for enforcement.
  • Valid Driver’s License and class (Nova Scotia Class 5 or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of municipal legislation and by- laws is an asset.     Criminal Records Check verification is required as a condition of employment. Vulnerable sector check may also be required for those working with vulnerable populations.
  • Medical assessments including but not limited to physical, vision, and hearing tests may be required. The assessments must show the capacity of performing tasks of the classification. This will take place at a later date.
