Description

The Celtic Colours Festival Society is seeking expressions of interest for the position of Artistic Director.

The Artistic Director is a key leadership role within the organization, responsible for shaping and realizing the artistic vision of the Celtic Colours International Festival. Held each October over nine days on Cape Breton Island, the Festival celebrates the region’s living culture through music, community, and connection. The Artistic Director curates and programs all artists, concerts, and performances, and plays a central role in creating a meaningful, high-quality experience for audiences and artists alike.

Working closely with the Festival staff, Board of Directors, and Executive Director, the Artistic Director ensures the organization’s mission and programming are thoughtfully and consistently represented to the public, partners, and the wider community. In addition to leading artistic planning, this role includes managing related financial, administrative, and human resource responsibilities.

We are seeking a candidate who brings:

Deep knowledge and appreciation of Cape Breton’s music and culture, particularly within the traditional, folk, and Celtic genres, as well as awareness of the broader national and international Celtic and folk music community.

Proven experience in artistic programming and festival or event management, with a strong understanding of best practices in the sector.

Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across a team and communicate effectively with artists, staff, audiences, and community members.

Experience working in a non-profit environment, including familiarity with working alongside a volunteer Board of Directors.

We welcome expressions of interest from candidates with a variety of professional backgrounds and are open to flexible approaches in how the role’s responsibilities may be fulfilled.
