Title: Retail & Hospitality Manager
Position: Full-Time Permanent (37.5hrs/week)
Hours of Work: Scheduling will be dictated by taproom
activities and events. Some evening and weekend availability is required.
Flexibility is key – schedules are created to reflect operational needs while
supporting work-life balance.
Job Location: Sydney, NS
Proposed Start Date: As soon as possible
Compensation Package: Annual salary range starting at $50,000
- $60,000 negotiable based on commensurate experience. Health & Dental

Cider House to find a Retail & Hospitality Manager to join their dynamic
team.
Island Folk Cider House is a proudly Nova Scotian craft
cidery based in Sydney, Cape Breton. They make small-batch ciders using local
ingredients — always gluten-free, never artificial, and crafted to suit a wide
range of tastes. Their bold flavours and playful branding reflect the creative
spirit behind everything they do. You’ll find them at your local NSLC, in
restaurants, and poured wherever good folks gather across the province.
Reporting to the business owner, the Retail &
Hospitality Manager is responsible for, but not limited to, overseeing and
leading the front-of-house team and operations, delivering exceptional customer
service, and helping Island Folk Cider House thrive as a vibrant community hub
through thoughtful marketing and promotional strategies.
This is a hands-on role for someone who is passionate about the local community, cares deeply about the guest experience, and takes pride in
the little things – no detail is too small. You thrive in a clean, organized
environment, value strong systems and processes, and lead with both clarity and
care.

- Lead and inspire the front-of-house team to foster a welcoming, inclusive, and fun atmosphere.
- Support and motivate staff to maintain strong morale, engagement, and alignment with company policies and procedures.
- Jump in on the taproom floor as needed – leading by example and creating a collaborative team culture.
- Develop and refine front-of-house systems and operational procedures that improve efficiency, ensure a safe and positive work environment, and reflect Island Folk values.
- Ensure a clean, organized, and detail-oriented space that upholds Island Folk standards of excellence.
- Strengthen relationships with customers and the broader community – ensuring every guest feels welcomed, valued, and eager to return.
- Develop and execute marketing and promotional strategies (with support from ownership and consultants) to drive sales and build brand awareness.
- Drive sales to meet and exceed revenue targets while maintaining exceptional customer experiences.
- Organize events, community partnerships, and on-site activities that enhance the guest experience and celebrate local culture.
- Manage inventory, order supplies and monitor cost controls to support operational sustainability.
- Support social media efforts by capturing on-brand content and engaging with followers in a timely, authentic way.
- Collaborate closely with ownership and management to set, track, and achieve business goals.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Post-secondary education and/or commensurate experience is required.
- Minimum of three (3) years management or supervisory experience is required; experience in the hospitality, food and beverage, or service industry is considered an asset.
- Proven ability to drive business growth and develop strategic initiatives is considered an asset.
- Energetic, enthusiastic, and brings a positive attitude to work every day.
- A strong problem solver who thinks quickly and adapts to challenges with solution-oriented thinking.
- Highly organized, detail-focused, and committed to cleanliness and efficiency.
- Tech-savvy and comfortable using a variety of software tools to streamline operations.
- A team player who leads by example and enjoys coaching and mentoring others.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proven ability to identify and implement customer experience improvements.
- Passionate about local, craft beverages, and creating a welcoming, community-focused space.
- Comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs and staying on your feet for extended periods of time.
- A clear criminal record check, valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is required.
