Cape Breton University (CBU) invites applications for the Client Technology Services Specialist in the Information Technology (IT) department.. This is a full-time limited term for approximately 1-year.

Reporting to the Manager, Client Technology Services, the Specialist takes a holistic and service-oriented approach to supporting CBU's computing ecosystem. This includes configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting end-user computing devices and peripherals; managing classroom and lab technologies; supporting software and hardware installations; and delivering excellent client service. This role supports students, faculty, and staff with Tier I and Tier II technical assistance related to devices, applications, IT infrastructure, educational technology, and service desk operations. The Specialist also contributes to ongoing IT projects, asset tracking, Evergreen equipment replacement cycles, and image development for campus-wide systems.

The Specialist will deliver technical support for a broad range of services and technologies. They will investigate and resolve technical issues, provide on-site and remote troubleshooting, and assist users with service requests related to hardware, software, classroom technology, network access, and telephony. The position supports the maintenance and imaging of lab and classroom computers, smart cards, and peripheral equipment. They will configure and maintain devices such as desktops, laptops, tablets, printers, and cellular phones, ensuring operational efficiency and security. The role includes the setup and technical support of video conferencing equipment, guest Wi-Fi accounts, and Tier I support for online learning tools.

The Specialist will manage software installations and updates, work with vendors, and monitor systems to identify and address security or usability concerns. They will participate in the Evergreen Program, supporting the full lifecycle of university-owned equipment from acquisition and deployment to data migration and secure disposal. This includes maintaining accurate inventory through the IT asset management system.

Additional responsibilities include creating and updating system images, assisting with IT projects, contributing to administrative tasks such as logging service tickets, and mentoring student IT staff. The Specialist is expected to remain current with emerging technologies and practices, and support continuous service improvement.
