Manager, New Dawn Community Healthcare under the supervision and direction of the Community Care Coordinator

 

Duties and Responsibilities

The Custodial Site Monitor is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for employees, volunteers, clients, residents, tenants, and visitors at the buildings, facilities and properties that are owned, operated and/or managed by New Dawn Enterprises. Primarily located at Pine Tree Park, the Site Monitor is responsible for maintaining a visible presence, patrolling and monitoring premises, enforcing security protocols, responding to incidents, and ensuring the safety and security within the premises. The Monitor works every shift with vigilance, integrity, demonstrates strong communication skills, and the ability to respond calmly and effectively to emergencies. They ensure that all work is completed in a caring and respectful manner in keeping with all relevant New Dawn Enterprises and legislative policies and procedures.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

Patrol & Monitoring

·         Conduct regular foot patrols of the premises (primarily at Pine Tree Park, but other sites as assigned) to identify suspicious activity, safety hazards, or potential threats

·         Monitor surveillance cameras, alarm systems, and access control systems for irregularities

·         Inspect doors, windows, gates other points of access to ensure they are secure and report any hazards and needs for repair and/or maintenance

 

Access Control

·         Check identification and credentials as required for staff, volunteers, residents, tenants, visitors, contractors, and other individuals who arrive at the premises

·         Enforce access control policies and prevent unauthorized entry

 

Incident Response & Management

·         Respond promptly to alarms, disturbances, and emergency situations (e.g., fire, medical emergencies, unauthorized visitors, theft, etc.)

·         Take appropriate action including contacting emergency services and attempting (when safe to do so) to de-escalate hostile situations

·         Document all incidents accurately in written reports, including those with and without harm and near misses, and maintain up-to-date and accurate daily activity logs

 

Site Liaison

·         Serve as a visible point of contact for staff, volunteers, residents, tenants, visitors, contractors, and other individuals seeking assistance on the site

·         Provide directions, wayfinding, escort and general support and guidance as required

·         Liaise with law enforcement and emergency responders as required

 

Compliance & Safety

·         Ensure compliance with organizational security and safety policies and procedures

·         Conduct safety inspections of site any hazards and needs for repair and/or maintenance

·         Participate in regular safety and security drills (e.g., fire or lockdown drills) and training

 

Qualifications

·         High school diploma or equivalent

·         Minimum one (1) year experience working in security, law enforcement, or military

·         Experience using security technology (CCTV, access control systems, etc.)

·         Valid and up-to-date certification in Persons with Security Responsibilities (PSWR), de-escalation, responsive behaviours and/or crisis management

·         Valid and up-to-date First Aid/ CPR & AED certification

·         Clear criminal records check including vulnerable sector search  

·         Strong observational skills and attention to detail

·         Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle conflict appropriately and diplomatically

·         Demonstrated skill using anti-oppressive practice (harm reduction, narrative practice, a client directed approach and a social justice perspective)

·         Physical fitness and ability to perform all aspects of the job including the physical stamina to endure extended periods of standing and walking, walking between different areas of sites, and the physical ability to lift up to fifty pounds (50 lbs)

·         Compassion, empathy, diplomacy, and problem solving

·         Experience working with and advocating for vulnerable populations 

·         Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and with guidance

·         Exceptional attention to detail and verbal and written communication skills 

·         Ability to work effectively with others toward shared goals 

·         Highly organized and ability to work well under pressure 

·         Proficiency with Microsoft suite of programs and applications 

·         High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability 

·         Understands servant leadership and community-centricity

 

Work Conditions

·         Physical ability to lift and carry up to fifty pounds (50 lbs) 

·         Bending, kneeling, squatting, sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, and occasional lifting

·         Ability to climb ladders or step stools to reach high areas such as windows

·         On feet most of the workday 

·         Work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions

·         Rotating shifts, including work on weekends, holidays, and overnight schedules

·         Interaction with staff, volunteers, residents, tenants, visitors, contractors, and other individuals

·         Travel may be required 

·         Overtime may be required

·         Environment can be busy and/or noisy at times 

 

Total Compensation Package
