JOB DESCRIPTION:
- POSITION TITLE: Cleaner
- DEPARTMENT: Buildings
- LOCATION: Various
- REPORTING TO: Janitor
- BARGAINING UNIT: CUPE Local 759
- SALARY: As per the current CUPE Local 759 Collective Agreement
JOB SCOPE:
Reporting to the Janitor, is responsible and accountable for conducting and maintaining the sanitation of civic buildings.
MAIN FUNCTIONS:
- Wear personal protective equipment and clothing as directed by your employer and the material safety data sheet (MSDS).
- Know the potential hazards and safe handling practices for all cleaning and disinfecting products and equipment to be used.
- Follow procedures and materials safety data sheets for cleaners and disinfectants used to ensure proper and safe application.
- Cleans daily:
- All entrances and lobbies
- Stairs and landings
- Elevators
- Washrooms
- Offices
- Council Chambers
- Lounges
- Janitors’ room
- Completes weekly:
- Mopping and sweeping of floors
- Vacuums upholstered furniture
- Removes stains from walls and doors
- Periodically cleans interior of windows and cleans telephone and other service rooms.
- Replenish bathrooms with supplies.
- Carry and lift supplies to replenish areas as needed.
- Removing garbage from offices or locations within the respective worksite/facility.
- Other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (MUST INCLUDE COPIES OF THE ITEMS LISTED BELOW)
- Completion of Grade 12 or GED equivalent.
- 1-year experience in a related field.
- Must have own transportation between job sites within CBRM.
- Emergency First Aid/CPR Level A/AED
- WHMIS/GHS Training
- Criminal Records Check verification is required as a condition of employment. Vulnerable sector check may also be required for those working with vulnerable populations. This will be requested at a later date.
- Medical assessments including but not limited to physical, vision, and hearing tests may be required. The assessments must show the capacity of performing tasks of the classification. This will take place at a later date.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to bend, twist, climb stairs, and lift to perform assigned duties.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to communicate effectively with tenants and members of the municipality.
- Good attendance and performance record.
