Position Title: Housing Coordinator

Classification: Term Position – 3 Year Contract

Reporting to: Director Planning & Development

Location: Civic Centre

Salary Range: $78,000 to 84,000

JOB SCOPE: Reporting to the Director, the Housing Coordinator’s primary range of responsibilities includes the following.

  • Further developing, coordinating and implementing CBRM Initiatives under CMHC’s Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF).
  • Working collaboratively with various stakeholders, including government agencies, community groups, developers, and residents, to ensure that housing initiatives align with the municipality's goals and objectives.
  • Formulating, reviewing, and recommending housing policies and strategies aimed at promoting affordable housing, improving housing quality, and fostering inclusive communities.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting housing-related data to inform decision-making processes, monitoring housing trends, and evaluating the effectiveness of CBRM’s housing programs and policies.
  • Develops public education and advertising on the Housing Accelerator/Affordable Housing Programs and Initiatives to reach target audiences.
  • Provides recommendations, track and reports on grants, including periodic status updates on the effectiveness of Housing Accelerator/Affordable Housing Programs and Initiatives.
  • Reviews and prepares requests for quotation/proposal, tenders, contracts, and agreements for required services and monitors/evaluates the work of consultants.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree in Planning, Public Administration, Business Administration, Project Management, or other relevant discipline or a diploma in a related field combined with a significant combination of relevant training and experience.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of related experience in housing policy and programs or community planning and development, and coordinating/implementing projects
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with others, both those within the organization and those outside the organization (other levels of government, community organizations, the business community)
  • Knowledge of Nova Scotia's Municipal Government Act and related legislation and provincial policies;
  • Full membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners is considered an asset;
  • Possesses a valid driver's license.
  • A medical assessment including physical, vision and hearing tests. Medical assessment must show the capacity of performing tasks of the classification. This will be completed at a later date.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Able to work well independently, solve problems, and meet deadlines under pressure;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Strong organizational, management, and reporting skills;
  • Must be able to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner;
  • Good research and analytical skills and techniques for the collection of information and data relevant to housing;
  • An understanding of the importance of GIS as an integral planning tool and proficiency in its application is considered an asset;
  • Proficiency in the use of a computer and Microsoft Office software.
