Reports to: Manager of Recreation & Community Wellness
Location: Port Hood, Nova Scotia
Job Category: Full-time Seasonal [35 hours per week]
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Recreation Summer Students will work with the Recreation & Community Wellness Department staff in the delivery of recreation & leisure programs within the County of Inverness. There will be required travel within the Municipality.
JOB DUTIES:
- Ensure health and safety regulations are followed.
- Support groups and individuals in recreation and leisure programming.
- Assemble and sanitize supplies, sports, and game equipment.
- Promote safe outdoor recreation experiences within the County.
- Manage and maintain Summer Equipment Rental program.
- Support Community Wellness initiatives.
- Assist with virtual program development & social media.
- Commit to achieving excellence in quality service and cost management through high level continuous improvement systems.
- Conduct and attend safety, operational and training meetings as required.
- Adhere to Municipal policies and procedures.
- Other related duties as assigned.
SAFETY:
- Adhere to all policies and procedures set forth by the Municipality of the County of Inverness.
- Report to the Manager of Recreation & Community Wellness, all work situations which are suspected of being unhealthy or unsafe.
- Report to the Manager of Recreation & Community Wellness any employee whose on-the-job performance or actions contravenes established safety procedures or work practices.
- Report to the Manager of Recreation & Community Wellness, all Occupational Health & Safety related injuries or property damage regardless of severity.
- Submit reports on accidents and other hazardous conditions discovered and promptly attend to all hazardous situations.
- Report all near-misses and incidents to the Manager of Recreation and Community Wellness, immediately.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- All applicants for this position must live within the Municipality of the County of Inverness.
- Applicants for the position must be a mature, responsible person, who is performance-orientated and can work independently.
- Team player who works well with others.
- First Aid Certification would be an asset.
- Experience and interest in hiking, sport, and physical activities.
- Previous experience working with children is considered an asset.
