Description
Working with the Student Development Officer – African Nova Scotian and Canadian Descent and reporting to the Manager, Student Support Services, the Youth Program Coordinator develops and delivers youth programming for African Nova Scotian (ANS) children and youth. The program aims to provide African Nova Scotian youth and children with an early introduction to post-secondary studies and raise awareness of the career opportunities available in sciences, healthcare, and other areas of study.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • In coordination with faculty and staff, develop age-appropriate programs (events, camps, on-campus activities, etc.) for children and youth of African descent.
  • Create a yearly calendar of events/activities.
  • Coordinate internal and external partnerships required to develop a Nursing bridging program for entering students either directly from high school or with Advanced Standing.
  • Work with local African Nova Scotian community to understand barriers to access for students of African descent.
  • Liaise with local community groups to raise awareness of CBU youth programs.
  • Collaborate with recruitment team to maximize students of African descent awareness of CBU.
  • Work with communications team to promote youth programs and drive participation.
  • Coordinate with CBU Events Team to create logistics and event plan to ensure a positive brand experience for children, youth and their parents.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary degree in the areas of community studies, youth development or related field
  • 1-2 years’ experience developing and delivering youth programs.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively with others or independently
  • African Nova Scotian descent are strongly preferred
  • Have experience working with African Nova Scotian students
  • Have knowledge of scholarships available to African Nova Scotian students
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with tact and cultural sensitivity
  • Understand the role of the Student Development Officer – Students’ of African Descent
  • Knowledge of ANS communities and organizations
