Anchored Recruiting is delighted to partner with the Joneljim Group of Companies to find a Payroll Administrator to be part of their core office team.

Our client, Joneljim, has been a leader in the Cape Breton Construction Industry for over 50 years. They have a unique opportunity for a focused and process-driven individual to join their administrative head office team. This Payroll Administrator will play a critical role in looking after unionized, non-unionized, and salaried payroll for the Joneljim Group of Companies, which is approximately 280 employees.

Reporting to the Office Manager, the successful candidate will need to demonstrate a high degree of accuracy, work well under pressure, resourcefulness, and have great attention to detail. Reporting to the Controller, you will be part of a 15-person administrative team in the Joneljim head office.

We are seeking an excellent time manager with intermediate bookkeeping experience. The successful candidate must be confident in their work, have excellent oral and written communication skills, and be able to complete a high volume of tasks.

As a Payroll Administrator, your key responsibilities will be:

  • Processing weekly EFT hourly and salaried payroll for 7 companies
  • Producing a review of all payroll and benefits information weekly to ensure accuracy before submission
  • Review of time and attendance information as it relates to pay
  • Preparing HST returns, T4, and ROEs 
  • Processing Workers’ compensation claims
  • Plan Administrator for Great-West Life for a group of companies
  • Prepare and provide reports for month-end
  • Process invoices promptly
  • Assisting with year-end and audit
  • Answer phone, filing, and provide administrative support to management as needed

Our client is offering you:

  • Permanent, Full-Time Position
  • Salary range offered: $40,000- $45,000, reviewed after 6-month probationary period.
  • Working hours 9 AM-5 PM
  • Cost-shared medical and dental benefits
  • Two weeks’ vacation, with additional time between Christmas and New Year’
  • The opportunity to work with one of the largest employers in Cape Breton

What you need to succeed:

  • You have experience in processing a large volume of payroll
  • You work well under pressure
  • You are deadline-driven
  • You are detail-driven with strong organizational skills
  • You have expert knowledge of Microsoft Office and navigating payroll software
  • You thrive in a high-volume environment
  • You have intermediate knowledge of bookkeeping

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • Post-Secondary diploma in a recognized accounting program or equivalent experience
  • Undergraduate degree is an asset
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of related experience in processing payroll for a large number of employees.
