Description

The Cape Breton Partnership is Cape Breton-Unama’ki’s private sector-led economic development organization. In order to introduce the idea of Entrepreneurship at an earlier age, in conjunction with all five Indigenous communities, the Cape Breton Partnership developed the Indigenous Youth Entrepreneurship Program. This program is to be offered in all five Indigenous communities across Unama’ki. To lead this project, the Cape Breton Partnership is looking for a driven multi-talented individual to fill the role of Project Coordinator. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for managing all project activities and ensuring that timelines and deliverables associated with the Program are being met.

Duties:

  • Identify community program facilitator for each cohort
  • Work closely with program facilitators to ensure project goals are met
  • Prepare communication materials to promote and support the project;
  • Recruit and ensure active participation from youth
  • Book spaces and ensure hospitality for Entrepreneurship Training
  • Book speakers, workshops, and field trips for Entrepreneurship Training Course (one per week)
  • Build and develop relationships with program participants.
  • Assist with program facilitation as required, become familiar with course curriculum
  • Contact Businesses/Entrepreneurs to create work placements for each program participant at the end of Entrepreneurship Training.
  • Oversee participation in work placement and deal with any issues that arise
  • Main point of contact with the EDOs, NTOs, and ETOs in each of the five Mi’kmaq communities to ensure project feasibility
  • Develop and review surveys to ensure program effectiveness
  • Adjust programming to align with feedback collected about the program
  • Prepare and submit invoices
  • Prepare various reports and schedules for review by management and clients as required
  • Various administrative tasks as required including but not limited to; scanning, photocopying, and entering information into various spreadsheets and databases
  • Assisting management with planning, organizing, directing, evaluating and controlling projects tasks according to specifications and budgets
  • Other duties as required

Working Conditions:

The Project Coordinator will work largely in an office environment and will work a standard work week (40 hours). As the program will be offered to Mi’kmaq communities across Unama’ki, work place will be flexible. Extensive travel throughout Unama’ki will be required.

  • Priority will be given to people of Indigenous Ancestry.
  • The position is located in Cape Breton.
  • This position is a term position from June 7th, 2021 to May 12, 2023.
  • Salary range based on education and experience.

Requirements

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • University or college degree/diploma in a related discipline (e.g. Human Resources, Planning, Administration, Business Administration) or a minimum of three years of experience in program management;
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitation and collaboration to advance a project involving multiple stakeholders;
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills (English);
  • Strong computer skills (including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Zoom);
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills and the ability to be tactful and culturally sensitive in engagement with a wide range of partners and stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and effectively with minimal direction;
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle; and
  • An ability to work outside regular business hours, as required.
