We’re looking for a dynamic, creative team player with experience planning and developing public outreach education programs, products and events. From in-person to digital outreach, this role is all about connecting with Canadians to increase understanding, appreciation and support for Parks Canada administered places on Cape Breton and in Canso. Plans, develops and implements field unit public outreach education programs, products and events to increase Canadians’ understanding and appreciation, and to encourage support and engagement with respect to the natural and cultural heritage places managed by Parks Canada.

Work environment

Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.


In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)


  • Graduation with a degree or diploma from a recognized university or college with specialization in education, communications, natural sciences, environmental sciences, Canadian history or Canadian studies or other discipline relevant to this position, OR
  • an acceptable combination of education, training and experience relevant to this position. Degree equivalency


  • Experience in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of public outreach education programs;
  • Experience in project management and in working with multidisciplinary project teams;
  • Experience delivering engaging outreach programming through digital platforms;
  • Experience in the management of contracted initiatives, related budgets and reporting processes;
  • Experience contributing to the development of policies and guidelines and providing advice to management and staff.

Information on language requirements


  • Knowledge of theories, principles and a broad spectrum of practices used in public outreach education in the areas of historical and natural heritage;
  • Knowledge of principles and practices used in evaluation of public outreach education programs and products.


  • Ability to communicate effectively;
  • Ability to facilitate learning opportunities for a diversity of audiences using a diversity of approaches;
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities, to multi-task and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to use public outreach education strategically to achieve expected results;
  • Ability to identify potential networks and partners and to develop and maintain respectful and effective collaborative arrangements;
  • Ability to relate to a broad age range of people including children, youth, young adults, mature adults and seniors;
  • Ability to connect with various communities including rural, urban, Acadian and Mi’kmaq.
