Description
- Work with incoming students, current students and recent graduates with their career choices and validation
- Design and implement student work-readiness and career development programming, including but not limited to resume development, interview preparation workshops and job search techniques
- Work with students preparing for professional and graduate programs, including academic advising, course selection, labour marketing information, career exploration and validation of career decision
- Manage a large caseload of students and prepare relevant and supporting written documentation
- Event plan to support initiatives within Career Services and academic schools that raise the profile of, and opportunities for, student work, employment goals and experiential learning
- Support ongoing development of career-related volunteer opportunities for students
- Participate in learning and engagement opportunities with local, provincial and national stakeholders in order to keep abreast of programs, services and opportunities for students and new grads.
- Develop and maintain productive working relationships with community service providers and employers, resulting in increased opportunities for students and new grads.
- Prepare reports and provide input into service delivery offerings and models
- Support the ongoing implementation and development of student employment programming, including but not limited to the Work Study program.
- Liaise with faculty, staff, academic schools and other internal stakeholders
- Keep abreast of relevant and up-to-date labour market information, including employment opportunities and sector-specific growth
- Provide one-on-one and group-based job search and career-readiness assistance to students
- Plan, manage, and facilitate employer information/recruitment sessions, both in-person and virtually.
- Utilize on-line web portals and platforms, including but not limited to ORBIS/mycareer.cbu.ca, LaMPSS and GCOS.
- Stay abreast of job search and career development trends
- Work with Career Services team and Student Affairs Department in the planning and facilitation of departmental and university events
- Work directly with recruitment team, middle schools and high schools in the development and provision of transition to university-related services and events
- Provide referrals to both internal and external services when required
- Other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the career development field
- Career Practitioner Certification considered an asset
- Experience in student placement, employer relations, and other experiential/work-integrated learning considered an asset
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent time-management and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
- Ability and desire to work independently in a fast-paced environment and complete multiple tasks and a large volume of work in a timely and effective manner
- The ability to work well with others, both internally and externally, from a wide variety of backgrounds
- Some evening and weekend work required
- Skilled in using Microsoft Office
- Ability to learn new software programs quickly and effectively
